Please convey to Sen Garrett my sense of outrage at the very idea of this bill.

I, too, am a father, and of three mature and thoughtful women. The idea that my government intends to project its metaphorical hands into their reproductive organs is abhorrent. I, too, believe in the sanctity of life, but I bristle at the notion that anyone except the woman herself can have the final say in what happens to her body, and/or to any body within her body until it is separated from her body. This is her sacred choice by virtue of her sex.

The very fact that this needs to be spelled out to you with such bluntness borders on the absurd, but the House of Delegates, and indeed, the national dialogue, has made this a political issue when it should, in fact, be a medical issue between a woman and her physician.

If, as I suspect, there are religious aspects to Sen Garrett’s pro-life position, please inform him that his appointment to the legislature is not based on religion, or religious conviction, but on civic duty. If there is a spiritual price to pay for abortion, it is between a woman and her creator. If a woman does not believe in abortion, she should not have one. It should be her decision. The body within her body is bound to her body, and her body is sacred. The body within is therefore subject to her control, and government, having no authority within the body, as well-intended as it might be, clearly has nor right of presence within the womb. The governing principle in any legislator’s decision on behalf of the Commonwealth should be “Is the decision I make for the material good of all of the people?” and not, “Is the decision I make in accord with my religious convictions?” When a legislator finds the latter to be the case, when any legislator believes they have been elected to provide a platform or pulpit for their religious convictions, they should abandon public service and join the clergy.

Abortion is sad, I agree, and difficult to deal with on an emotional and spiritual level. I also agree that encouraging a full term birth is appropriate, but I firmly insist that it is not your place as a male, nor as a legislator, and neither is it my place as a male, nor as a father, to forcibly intervene in this part of the process or procreation. If God wanted us to have any semblance of final authority in this matter, it seems He would have given us bodies with the required physical apparatus and allowed the specific opportunity to exercise our right of choice. Since this is not the case with either of us, I will thank you very much to keep your hands, your religion, and your medical instruments, out of my daughter’s reproductive passages.

As an Independent voter and former Republican, I find it reprehensible and hypocritical that the leadership in this state would try to slip this disgusting bill past the people of Virginia. On the one hand, I hear Republicans whining less government intervention in the lives of the common people, but now we see clearly that the other hand wants to reach deep inside the female body. This is disgraceful on multiple levels and has added my state to the laughingstock of the civilized world to the point where I’m ashamed to say I’m a Virginian. In my opinion, anyone in the House of Delegates who sought to sponsor this bill should resign immediately.

A letter my dad wrote to our Senator about the Virginia transvaginal ultrasound bill. The appreciation I have for this man knows no bounds. (via wonderbecky)

Dear Netflix Team,
I got your email about the price hike.
What you should have said was, “we’re charging $9.99 a month for the same service you’ve always had, and we’re gonna charge you an additional $5.99 a month for the lube we’re using to fuck you in the ass.”
May everyone who had a hand in this decision lose the ability to smell freshly baked cookies on or after September 1, 2011.
Go fuck yourselves,
Coke Talk

This is idiotic. Higher costs = higher prices. Recent estimates put Netflix’s licensing costs at $1.2 BILLION in 2012. $15.98? Yes, it’s more expensive. But honestly, it’s still the best deal out there, and if you don’t like it, cancel. No one will stop you.

Look at how I’m dressed; I’m asking to be murdered.

STFU, feminists.: Society teaches “DON’T GET RAPED” rather than “DON’T RAPE”

stfu-feminists:

psim:

stfu-feminists:

This has become quite a catch-phrase lately, despite the glaring logical failure in it. Society does teach “don’t rape”, but that doesn’t mean that everyone will obey that. Would you say that society teaches “don’t get robbed” instead of “don’t rob” just because there are such cases? Or if you…

I think there’s a glaring logical failure with your approach. Rape isn’t the same as robbery. In the case of robbery we tell people not to steal; however, when it comes to rape, we tell potential victims to not get raped.

Incorrect.

In the case of robbery, we tell people not to rob, but we also tell potential victims not to leave themselves open for robbery (lock the door when you leave home, etc.).

By the very same analogy, it’s ridiculous how so many claim that we should only tell people not to rape, without telling potential victims how to reduce the risk of getting raped.

~Z.

But when have we ever done that? (referring to telling people to not rape)

I agree that it’s absurd to think what you dress, how much you drink etc. won’t affect your chances of getting rape, because it does. What I’m arguing for is a society that teaches people rape is bad and here’s how to prevent it. But we should not treat the victim (of rape) as the criminal here - that’s really what it comes down to.

If someone were to get robbed, we don’t really say, “you dressed like you wanted to get robbed.” We say that’s unfortunate and we feel sympathy for the person who got robbed. Why can’t we do that same thing for victims of rape? It’s because we view rape as the fault of the victim.

Society constantly does so. You know, that’s why rape is considered a crime. That’s to tell everyone that it is forbidden.

As for your analogy, it’s faulty. It’s absurd how the feminist viewpoint of rape constantly treats it as a black and white topic, when it isn’t. Allow me to correct your analogy: if you leave your home with the door wide open and your valuable clearly visible at a casual glance, and you get robbed, the robber is the criminal - but you were careless nonetheless. The same applies to rape too.

~Z.

No matter how many times I hear it explained, justified, and supported, the comparison between rape and property crime turns my stomach. Yes, you can be careless and not lock your doors and hide your valuables. It is still not your fault if you are burglarized.  Are people really trying to say that the way a woman dresses or acts is akin to leaving the “door wide open”? Why is someone’s body being compared to monetary “valuables”? How anyone can really think that is just horrendously sad.

You present absolutely no point here, as objective points can’t be based on one’s emotions. Whether or not it “turns your stomach” does not affect its validity at all. If you wish to challenge a point, do so rationally and objectively.

~Z.

Wow, the condescending snark is overwhelming. Who the fuck asked you? If a blog called “stfu-feminists” had points worth challenging, trust me I’d do so rationally and effectively. Not every post I reblog I add debate-worthy commentary to. As for objectivity, comparing a person’s body and safety to monetary goods is not an issue I can remain impartial on, as I am, in fact, a person. And what point of merit, pray tell, did your response add? You did not further elucidate your “logical” assessment of rape victims as careless people who invited their assault, you simply berated the fact that I feel emotions. Stellar commentary!

Why don’t we just expand on this little flawed analogy:

Don’t get murdered.

You thought it was bad that the aforementioned burglar stole all of your shit? If you put up a fight and get murdered, society will shun the fuck out of you. Should’ve locked your windows.

Bald Spots

Today I had to get drug tested for my job this Summer. It was a hair test, and they took out a much larger chunk of hair than I expected them to. So now I am self consciously rubbing the place where that hair used to be wondering how much it looks like I’m losing my hair or something.

Also, it reminds me of hair cuts of old when my mom would cut my hair, because once, in Kindergarten, she gave me a bald spot (followed by “oh crap”). The next day I went to school and showed my gym teacher (Coach Shepherd), saying, “Look what my mom did!”.
